Barry Blaine

Zion friend Barry Blaine (pictured here with his dog Molly) is undergoing some major health challenges. His wife Ellen, a long time Zion member, would like to share some thoughts about there experience with the congregation.

“At this joyful time of year of our Dear Lord’s Resurrection, I felt the obligation to share with you the results of you many, many prayers for Barry. He may not be the Barry Blaine that we once knew but he certainly did come a long way from being in the I.C.U. on a ventilator, oxygen, feeding tub, 7 IV bottles, etc., etc., and every system of his body affected. Never, ever give up! We may not always get the results we would like but we must still learn to allow our Dear Lord to be “in charge!” He did return for us though not himself. Peace be with All! Thank you never seems enough to express our family’s gratitude for one’s love, compassion and prayers. We also learned that Zion has a very special, caring Pastor Dan, who renders endless empathy and compassion to us all.” ~ Ellen

Adult Forum

For the next few weeks, the Adult Forum Group will be talking about major reformers from Martin Luther to the Wesley brothers in England.  Our discussions will center on the similarities and differences in the views of various reformers and about the different Protestant denominations that arose from the many reformation traditions.

The discussions have been lively and informative, with members of the group contributing from their personal experiences and their own knowledge of the church.

Adult Forum meets each Sunday at 9:20 am in the office wing of Faith Hall.  We welcome any and all interested adults to join us (and youth too!).

Social Ministry Opportunities

There are many ways to become involved in solving the problems and issues of today, and our Lutheran organizations have information about events for those who are interested. For more details on the following events and other opportunities, please refer to the April LVL Newsletter or contact Judy Bumpus at (908) 684-0391.

The Worship Committee has decided to try something “new” for our Maundy Thursday celebration this Lenten season. Instead of a traditional service in the sanctuary, we will gather at 6:30 pm in Faith Hall for a meal and service as Jesus gathered with his disciples for a last meal together before his death and resurrection. As Jesus paused in that meal to bring special significance to bread and wine, we too will pause in our Maundy Thursday meal to remember the sacrifice of Jesus’ body and blood. And as Jesus was gradually deserted by those closest to him in the hours that followed that last meal, we will remember that desertion through readings and the gradual extinguishing of lights around our tables. We hope that you will join us as we commemorate Maundy Thursday , March 29th in this special time of fellowship, contemplation and worship!

Valley View would like to make this a Long Valley community event by inviting folks from all the town’s churches to attend. The concert is free, but a love offering afterwards will be received for the choir and the Daraja ministry of taking care of the kids year-round. If you are interested in more information, please contact Andrew Brackmann, the Associate pastor at Valley View Chapel in Long Valley at [email protected], or contact Laura in the office.
