On Saturday, October 20th from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, we will hold a service of blessing for all animals and will personally bless your pets (and/or whatever animals you would like to bring!). The blessing of animals is an ancient tradition, dating back centuries in the Christian Church and practices by many other faith traditions as well. Christians usually celebrate the service on or around the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. We found that the weekend closest to that feast had already been set as “candidate weekend” here at Zion and that the next weekend was “Ort Farm weekend”. We have thus decided to go with Saturday, October 20th. There will be a short liturgy at 2:00 pm “on the lawn”, followed by individual blessings of any and all animals brought to the church. If your pet or animal can’t make it to the church that day, feel free to bring a collar, bed or some other item that is associated with that animal. For everyone’s safety (especially the safety of your pet) please be sure that animals are contained or on leash.
