WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Lutheran church is one of the oldest and largest Protestant denominations in the world.  The Lutheran World Federation is a global communion of 148 churches in the Lutheran tradition, with  over 75.5 million Christians in 99 countries.

The central confession for Lutherans around the world is that “we are justified by God’s grace through faith.”

Lutherans confess that the means through which God’s gives grace is in (with, and under) the Word & Sacraments, so we gather each Sunday around the Word and Holy Communion

We confess that there is nothing we can do to earn God’s love, and we cannot even choose God, or in Martin Luther’s words “I believe that by my own understanding or strength I cannot believe in Jesus Christ my Lord or come to him, but instead the Holy Spirit has called me through the gospel…” (Small Catechism, Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed)

Zion is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), which includes 3,563, 842 members, 17,460 leaders (pastors & deacons) in 65 synods including 9,252 congregations, 26 colleges, 7 seminaries, and over 250 social service agencies in the United States.
